AIIMS:
The health survey and development committee ,chaired by Sir Joseph Bhore, an Indian Civil Servant ,had in 1946 already recommended the establishment of a national medical centre which would concentrate on meeting the need for highly qualified manpower to look after the nation’s expanding health care activities . The dreams of Nehru and Amrit Kaur and the recommendations of the Bhore Committee converged to create a proposal which found favor with the government of New Zealand. A generous grant from New Zealand under the Colombo Plan made it possible to lay the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1952.The AIIMS was finally created in 1956,as an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament ,to serve as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspect of health care. All-India Institute of Medical Sciences was established as an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament with the objects to develop patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India; to bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity; and to attain self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education.

Eligibility:
Candidates who have passed 12th class examination under 10+2 system or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English securing a minimum of 60% marks (50% in case of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/ Orthopaedic Physically Handicapped candidates) in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English or whose results of Class XII are likely to be declared by 7th July, 2009 are eligible to apply.

The Prospectus-cum-Application Form costing Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 800/- in case of SC /ST candidates) inclusive of examination fee can be obtained in the following manner:

By Post:
The Prospectus - cum-Application Form can also be obtained by Speed Post /Registered Post by sending a written request with an account payee Bank Draft for Rs.1050/- (Rs. 850/- in case of SC/ST candidates) in favour of “M.B.B.S. Entrance Examination-2009” payable at New Delhi. The Bank Draft should be valid up to July/August 2009. The request must reach the Assistant Controller of Examination, All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi- 110 608 on or before 21.02.2009. The words ‘REQUEST FOR APPLICATION FORM FOR M.B.B.S. 

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION 2009′ should be written on the envelope containing request for application form, and also on top of the request letter. The address at which Application Form is required should be written clearly in CAPITAL LETTERS and with PIN code. AIIMS will not be responsible for delay in / non-receipt of Application Form caused by illegible or incomplete address.
